Beginning Watercolor

JUST WINGING IT

I know I can draw a bit, but when it comes to working with water, paper, and paint, and holding a brush steady … I’m challenged! So all of this is therapy!

So far, I’ve learned that I can pencil sketch first and then paint. I’ve also learned that it’s also OK to do it the other way around. I do need more practice with dimension and the human form. That’s why I’m only showing a portion of the piece I’m working on. It’s “Christmasy,” so that’s fun!

Above: This is a small section of a larger piece. I am still working on this one. Why? Because it has people in it and as I mentioned, I need to work on drawing humans.

Above: This was the first one I did. Not the first watercolor I’ve ever done, but the first one this November as part of what I call, #wishfulthinking! I was inspired from a travel magazine. And I really want to go to Italy.

Above: THIS is the first watercolor I’ve done. Yeah, sure, I probably did some many years ago, but they don’t count now. This one was done August 28, 2017. It still counts. That’s Central Oregon.

Above: This is the second piece I did as part of #wishfulthinking. It’s a resort and spa called Mezzatorre in Ischia, Italy. I loved how the photo of this place made me feel when I saw it in Conde Nast. The volcanic island has a tumultuous history sitting out there off the coast of Naples. Ironically, Ischia is quite densely populated.

Above: No. 3 of #wishfulthinking. Inspired by another photo from Conde Nast. Lounge Chairs at cafe Cocò Mare with Aragonese Castle in the background. This is only a section of the whole. It has people in it, so yes, I’m still working on it!

More to come!
